How long do I have to make a cosmetic surgery claim?+
In England and Wales you usually have 3 years to start a claim. This runs from the date of the procedure, or from the date you first realised your injury was linked to negligent treatment — known as the “date of knowledge”. Different rules apply for children and people who lack mental capacity, so it's always worth checking with us early.
I signed a consent form before my treatment. Can I still claim?+
Yes, you may well still have a claim. Signing a consent form does not sign away your right to compensation. Consent only counts in law if it was properly informed — meaning the risks, side effects and alternatives were clearly explained to you beforehand. If you weren't given a fair picture of what could go wrong, your consent may not have been valid, and you could still be entitled to claim.
How much compensation could I receive for a cosmetic injury?+
It depends on the severity of your injury, the scarring or disfigurement involved, the psychological impact and your financial losses. Awards range from a few thousand pounds for minor, temporary harm to substantial sums for permanent disfigurement and serious distress.
